“When I heard that Wal-Mart wanted to build a SuperCenter in our town, it was as though everything I love about Damariscotta was threatened”. Jenny Mayher, Co-Founder, OurTown Damariscotta
to build a SuperCenter in a small coastal Maine town. The range of citizen responses soon created a fissure that divided the community. On one side were those who wanted convenience, jobs, increased tax revenues, and rolled back prices. On the other side were those who sought to protect the local landscape and economy from out-of-scale development and out-of-town corporate colonization.
